Like so many dark chapters of history, it is shockingly easy to compartmentalize the experiences of the women bartered and traded as cattle under the auspices of Polygamy as a ‘product of a different time’. But never forget that Polygamy did not die with history. It lives and thrives among us today. Tens of thousands of women in Utah alone – hundreds of thousands across the United States and Mexico – still live their lives as the property of men, often marrying in their early or even pre-teens. And yet, victims as they are, their inner fortitude and the bonds they must form with their sister wives are a testament to the resiliency and strength of women even in the darkest of circumstances.
