Artist’s Statement
It is the most primal and universal sort of love that begets the most heart wrenching pain. We are an endless string of mothers who must watch our children fall apart, bound in an unbroken chain of belief that if we can simply hold them tight enough we can keep them from harm. But in reality, when holding them close, their heartbeats against our breasts, it reminds of what we have already lost – the tiny heartbeat that was once within.
